Displaying Small Art
Have you ever thought about turning your wall into a gallery of small art pieces? It's a fantastic way to showcase your personal collection and add a touch of creativity to your space.
I love the flexibility of using small art. They can go almost anywhere and you can continually add more. Notice this picture on the right. It's an unusually shaped wall below the stairs, and I found this to be a perfect place to display small artwork.
And I'd be remiss if I didn't give proper credit to the wonderful artists whose artwork I've displayed here. LaurieAnne Gonzalez, Taylor Cox, Andrea Lavery, Kippi Leonard, Justin Gaffrey, and John Smyth.
Arrange in Clusters
Instead of spacing out your small artworks evenly, consider arranging them in clusters. This creates visual interest and allows you to group pieces that complement each other. Play around with different layouts until you find the perfect arrangement.
Mix and Match
Don't be afraid to mix different types of art on your wall. Combining paintings, prints, and photographs can create a dynamic and eclectic display. Experiment with mixing colors, textures, and sizes for a visually appealing result.
Use Floating Shelves
If you have a collection of small sculptures or 3D artworks, consider using floating shelves to display them. This adds depth to your wall display and allows you to easily switch out pieces whenever you feel like refreshing the look.
Play with Frames
The frames you choose can have a big impact on the overall look of your wall display. Mix and match different frame styles, colors, and materials to add a unique touch to your collection. You can also opt for frameless displays for a modern and minimalist look.
Lighting is Key
Proper lighting can make all the difference in showcasing your small art. Consider installing picture lights or adjustable spotlights to highlight your favorite pieces. Soft, warm lighting can create a cozy atmosphere, while bright lighting can make your art pop.
With these tips, you can transform your wall into a stunning gallery of small artworks that reflect your personal style and creativity. Get started on curating your collection and enjoy the process of designing your own art-filled space!
